To remove a watermark, logo, date stamp or text overlay, brush over it and press Remove: an AI inpainting model paints over the mark with the background around it, and you download the image at its original size. It works best on small marks over simple backgrounds; large or busy watermarks may leave smudges. Everything runs in your browser, so your image is never uploaded. It is the same tool as Remove Objects from Photos, starting with a finer brush.
Only use this on images you own or have the rights to edit. Removing a copyright owner's watermark from their work can be unlawful.
Tips for removing a watermark
- Cover all of it. Faint edges, glows and drop shadows that you miss stay behind as a ghost of the mark.
- Corner logos and date stamps. These usually sit on a plain edge and come off in one pass.
- Text watermarks. Brush each line of text with a brush a little taller than the letters. The Remove Text from Image page has more tips for text.
- On texture. Over grass, fabric or brick, switch to Best quality: it is a bigger download but handles texture much better.
- Big or repeated marks. Work on one area at a time and check with Compare. If the result is smudged, the original without a watermark is the better route.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove a watermark from a photo?
Upload the image, brush over the watermark until it is covered in red (include its outline or shadow), and press Remove. An AI inpainting model fills the area from the pixels around it. Use Compare to check, brush over any traces and press Remove again.
Which watermarks come off cleanly?
Small marks over simple backgrounds: a logo in a corner over sky or a wall, a date stamp on a photo, a username on a flat screenshot, text over a plain colour. The model has to invent what was underneath, so it can only do that well where the surroundings are simple.
What doesn't work well?
Large, tiled or semi-transparent watermarks spread across a busy photo, marks over faces, text or fine patterns, and anything covering a big share of the picture. Those usually leave smudges or blurry patches, because the detail under the mark is gone and can't be recovered. Best quality helps on textures but won't fix a watermark that covers the whole image.
Is it legal to remove a watermark?
Use this on images you own or have permission to edit, such as your own photos with an old date stamp or a logo you added yourself. Removing someone else's watermark or copyright notice from their work can breach their copyright and, in many countries, laws that protect copyright information. This is not legal advice; if in doubt, ask the owner or buy a licence.
Does it find the watermark automatically?
No - you brush over it. That way only what you mark changes, and nothing else in the picture is touched.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The AI model (MI-GAN, about 28 MB, or LaMa, about 208 MB, for Best quality) is downloaded once to your browser and runs there. Your image never leaves this tab.
