To remove text from an image, brush along each line of text and press Remove: an AI inpainting model replaces the letters with the background around them, and you download the image at its original size. It runs entirely in your browser, so screenshots and personal photos are never uploaded. It is the same tool as Remove Objects from Photos, with a thinner brush to start with.
Tips for removing text
- One stroke per line. Set the brush a little taller than the letters and drag along the line; include outlines and drop shadows.
- Date stamps and captions. These usually sit on sky, ground or a plain edge and come off in one pass.
- Screenshots and flat graphics. On a solid colour the fill is usually exact. On gradients or behind other elements, check with Compare and repeat if needed.
- Text on texture. On fabric, brick or leaves, switch to Best quality - it handles texture much better than Quick.
- Need to hide it, not replace it? Blur Brush blurs text such as names or numbers instead.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove text from an image?
Upload the image, brush along each line of text until the letters are covered in red, and press Remove. An AI inpainting model fills the area with the background around it. Check with Compare, brush over any leftover bits and press Remove again.
Does it detect the text automatically?
No - you brush over the text you want gone. That keeps you in control of what changes: a caption goes, but a sign you want to keep stays.
What kind of text comes off cleanly?
Text on fairly plain areas: captions and date stamps on sky, walls or water, labels on paper, stickers on a flat surface. Text over faces, fine patterns or other text is harder, because the model has to invent what was underneath and can only guess from the surrounding pixels.
Can I change the text instead of removing it?
Not here - this page only removes. After removing, you can add new text with an image editor, or use our image to text tool if you need to copy what the text said first.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The AI model (MI-GAN, about 28 MB, or LaMa, about 208 MB, for best quality) is downloaded once to your browser and runs there. Your image never leaves this tab.
Can I remove a watermark or copyright notice?
Only from images you own or have permission to edit. Removing someone else's watermark or copyright notice may breach their copyright and, in many countries, laws that protect copyright information.
