Sign PDF puts your signature on a PDF without printing it: draw it with a mouse, finger or stylus, type your name in a handwriting-style font, or upload a photo of your signature on paper (the white background is made transparent). Drag it into place, resize it, add the date, and download. Everything runs in this browser tab - pdf.js renders the pages and pdf-lib writes the signature in as an image - so the document is never uploaded. This is a visual signature, like signing a printout; it is not a certificate-based digital signature that proves identity cryptographically.
How to use it
- Drag and drop, or click to upload a PDF.
- Create your signature: draw it, type it and pick a style, or upload an image of it.
- Go to the page you want and click "Place signature". Drag it into position and drag its corner to resize.
- Add the date or other text if you need it. Use "Copy to all pages" to initial every page.
- Click "Download signed PDF".
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The pages are rendered with pdf.js and the signature is written into the file with pdf-lib, both running inside your browser tab. The document and your signature never leave your device.
Is this a legally binding digital signature?
It is a visual signature: an image of your signature placed on the page, the same as signing a printout and scanning it. It is not a certificate-based digital signature (the kind that cryptographically proves who signed and that nothing changed since). Whether a visual signature is enough depends on the document and where you are - many everyday forms accept one, some contracts and official filings need a certificate-based signature from a dedicated service.
Can I sign on more than one page?
Yes. Place a signature, then move to another page and place it again, or select it and click Copy to all pages to put the same signature at the same spot on every page - handy for initialling.
My uploaded signature has a white box around it - can I fix that?
The upload tab turns near-white paper transparent automatically. If some of the background survives (a grey scan, a shadow), lower the Background slider until only the ink is left. Dark or coloured paper can't be removed this way - sign on white paper for the cleanest result.
Can I add the date?
Yes - Add date places today's date (or anything you type in the box) as a small text stamp you can drag next to your signature. Add text does the same for a name, initials or a title.
Will the signature look sharp when printed?
Drawn and typed signatures are rendered at several times screen resolution before they're embedded, so they stay crisp at normal print sizes. An uploaded photo is only as sharp as the photo.
What's the signed file called?
Your original filename with -signed added, like contract-signed.pdf.
