Frequently asked questions

Is Candid Tools actually free, or is there a paid tier?

Free, full stop. No premium tier, no feature paywall, no usage limit that unlocks with a card number.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Open any tool and use it immediately - there's no sign-up flow between you and the task.

What happens to the files or text I use in a tool?

For nearly every tool, processing runs entirely in your browser - nothing is uploaded to a server. The one exception is Domain Info, which sends the domain name (not a file) to a server to run a WHOIS/RDAP lookup; that's disclosed on the tool itself.

How is this different from other free online tools?

Most "free" tools upload your file to a server, process it there, and send it back - and often gate real usage behind an account or a paywall once you're hooked. Everything here that can run client-side does, and the free tools stay free.

If it's free, what's the catch - how do you make money?

There isn't a hidden catch on the tools themselves. The site runs on lightweight product analytics (PostHog) to see what's useful, and an optional, off-by-default ad pixel that only turns on during an active ad campaign - details are on the privacy page.

Can I request a tool that doesn't exist yet?

Yes - email hello@candidtools.com. Tools get added because they're useful, not because they tested well with a growth team.

Have a tool in mind, or something not working?

If there's a tool you keep wishing existed, or you hit a bug, tell me and I'll look at it.
