HEIC to PNG Converter

Paste a HEIC image (Ctrl+V), drag and drop, or click to upload

This tool decodes your HEIC/HEIF file with a WebAssembly build of libheif running in your browser tab, then re-encodes it as PNG. The file is never sent to a server - the whole conversion happens locally.

How to use it

  1. Paste, drag-and-drop, or click to upload a HEIC/HEIF photo.
  2. It decodes automatically - this can take a few seconds.
  3. Click "Download PNG" to save the converted file.

Frequently asked questions

Is my HEIC file uploaded to a server?

No - decoding happens locally via WebAssembly in your browser tab, and the PNG is produced there too. Nothing is sent anywhere.

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the photo format iPhones save by default since iOS 11. It's smaller than JPEG at similar quality, but far fewer apps and websites outside Apple's ecosystem can open it.

Why doesn't my HEIC photo open on Windows or in Chrome?

HEIC decoding isn't natively supported outside Apple platforms (and even Safari's support varies by context). Converting to PNG makes the image openable everywhere.

Will converting to PNG reduce quality?

No - PNG is lossless, so the pixel data carries over exactly. The file will typically be larger than the original HEIC, since PNG doesn't compress as efficiently.

Does this work with Live Photos or HEIC bursts?

It converts the primary still image. Motion/video data attached to Live Photos isn't carried over to a PNG.
