Trim Audio

Trim Audio cuts the start and end off an audio file in your browser, copying the audio without re-encoding for M4A, MP3, WAV, FLAC and Opus, so the file is never uploaded and loses no quality.

Cut the start and end off a recording - the small talk before a meeting, the silence after a voice memo, the intro of a song - and download just the part you want. By default the audio is copied rather than re-encoded, so the result sounds exactly like the original and an hour-long M4A is cut in a moment. It all happens in your browser; the file is never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Drop in an audio file, or click to choose one.
  2. Drag the two handles on the waveform, or type exact start and end times. Play selection lets you check where it begins and ends.
  3. Press Trim, then download the file.

Frequently asked questions

Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and cut inside your browser tab with Mediabunny, an open-source media library. Nothing is sent to a server, so a long meeting recording is ready as fast as your device can read it.

Does trimming lower the quality?

Not with the default, Original format. The audio data is copied as it is, without being decoded and re-encoded, so the trimmed file sounds exactly like the original and is ready in a moment, even for an hour-long recording. The cut lands on the nearest audio frame, about 20 milliseconds, which you can't hear.

Which formats can I trim?

M4A, AAC, MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG and Opus files keep their own format. Other audio, and the sound from a video file, can be saved as MP3 or WAV instead.

How do I cut at an exact time?

Type the start and end into the time boxes, as seconds (90.5) or minutes and seconds (1:30.5), or hours too (1:02:30). You can also focus a handle and nudge it with the arrow keys: a tenth of a second per press, a second with Shift, ten seconds with Page Up and Page Down.

Why is there no waveform?

Drawing it means decoding the whole file, which a few browsers can't do for some formats. Trimming doesn't need it, so the handles and time boxes still work, and the Original format option copies the audio without decoding it.
