Without Nitro, Discord takes files up to 20 MB. Drop a clip, screenshot or PDF and the page says whether it fits; if not, Make it fit shrinks it with the matching candidtools compressor, aimed just under 20 MB, and shows the result before you download it. A video comes back as an H.264 MP4 at the highest resolution the size allows, with the resolution and bitrate shown.
How to use it
- Drop the file, or click to choose it.
- Read the verdict: fits, or how far over 20 MB it is.
- Press Make it fit, check the preview, download and upload.
How much video fits in 20 MB
20 MB is about 160 megabits. For a 30-second clip that is about 5 Mbps, enough for sharp 1080p. For two minutes it is about 1.2 Mbps, which the compressor spends on a lower resolution. A long gameplay recording will not fit at a watchable quality, and the page will say how many seconds would. This is arithmetic from the compressor's planning rules, not a measurement.

The compressors behind it
Make it fit picks settings for you. For full control over one kind of file, use the compressor directly:
- Compress PDF - compression levels or an exact target size.
- Image Compressor - a quality slider with a live before and after.
- Compress Video - resolution, sound and quality settings.
- P2P File Share - for files too big to shrink: sends the original, no size limit.
Frequently asked questions
What is Discord's upload limit?
Discord's File Attachments FAQ says the maximum upload for accounts without Nitro is 20 MB. Nitro raises it. Discord also says it is experimenting with upload limits, so some accounts may see a different number. We checked the page on 13 October 2026.
Another page told me a different limit. Which is right?
Discord has changed the free limit over the years, so older guides quote other numbers. Discord's own FAQ gives 20 MB today, and that is what this page checks against. If your account shows a different limit, use Fit to Send's custom limit instead.
Is the 20 MB per file or per message?
Discord's FAQ gives it as the maximum file upload, so this page checks each file on its own. Drop several and each one gets its own verdict.
Will the video play inline in Discord?
Discord lists MP4 with H.264, HEVC or AV1 video among the common file types. Make it fit produces an H.264 MP4, the most widely supported of those.
What if it's still too big?
The page says so instead of handing back a smeared video. Trim it to the clip that matters, or send the original with P2P File Share, which has no size limit.
