A before and after photo is one image that shows two moments next to each other, so the change is obvious at a glance without swiping. Drop your before photo on the left and your after photo on the right; this page opens in the square 1080 x 1080 layout with "Before" and "After" labels already on, so you can download a finished side-by-side image in a few seconds.
What people make with it
- Fitness and weight-loss progress. Rename the labels to dates or weeks ("Jan" and "Jun") and use the same pose and lighting in both shots.
- Home renovation and cleaning. A room, a garden or a car before and after the work, for a portfolio, a listing or a client update.
- Photo retouching and editing. The original next to the edited version, labelled "Original" and "Edited", to show what changed.
- Products and design. An old and a new package, screen or logo, or a product with and without a feature.
Choosing a layout
- Square post (the default here) makes a 1080 x 1080 pixel image: each photo fills a tall half and is centre-cropped, so keep the subject in the middle of the frame. Good for square feed posts.
- Fit keeps both photos uncropped at the same height, so nothing is cut off. The image comes out wide.
- Crop turns each photo into a square and places the two squares side by side, a 2:1 strip.
When this is, and isn't, the right tool
- Right choice: you have two photos and want one still image to post or send, with clear labels.
- Not the right choice: you want a draggable slider for a website, a GIF that flips between the two, or the photos stacked top and bottom - this page only places them left and right.
- Comparing more generally? The main Compare Images page is the same tool without the labels switched on, for screenshots, design versions or any two images.
Frequently asked questions
How do I put two photos side by side in one image?
Add the before photo to the left box and the after photo to the right box. They are combined straight away into one image, before on the left and after on the right, which you download as a single PNG.
Can I add 'Before' and 'After' text on the photos?
Yes. Labels are on by default on this page. Change the wording (for example 'Week 1' and 'Week 12', or 'Original' and 'Retouched'), move them to the top or bottom, or untick 'Add labels' to leave them off.
What size is the finished image?
In "Square post" mode it is exactly 1080 x 1080 pixels, with each photo centre-cropped to a tall half. In "Fit" mode both photos keep their shape at a shared height of up to 600 pixels, so the width is the two photos plus the gap and padding. "Crop" makes each photo a square of up to 600 pixels.
My two photos were taken at different sizes. Will they line up?
They are scaled to the same height, so a phone photo and a camera photo still sit level. For the most convincing comparison take both from the same spot and distance; the tool does not align or match the photos for you.
Can I make a before and after with a slider?
Not here. This page makes one still image with both photos side by side, which is what most social posts, listings and portfolios use. It does not make an interactive slider or an animated GIF.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Both photos are drawn on a canvas in your browser tab and the PNG is made there, so progress photos and client work never leave your device.
